Project Description

These were shot from October – December 2015, at two allotment sites in Henley. I set about taking these as a sort of preamble to a more ambitious project in which I’m addressing the land as a sustainable resource. As often happens the plan was revised; the allotment shoots developed into a distinct project as the images began to reveal a unique place characterised by a combination of fertile land and sympathetic intervention.

There is no political aspect to these places, though there is widespread use of sustainable techniques; water harvesting, composting, inter-planting etc.; more a result of creative improvisation than of ideology. We see a domesticated landscape; but it feels like a collaboration as opposed to a power struggle, a benevolent association between human and nature.
